The City is our Arena
The City is our Arena promotes physical activity among young people. We will create an interactive map of the free sport facilities of a city. With this map the project wants to give everybody access to sport. Together with 5 other European cities, you will develop this interactive map of sport facilities in Haarlem.
Opportunities to be physically active tend to decrease when young adults start to work. Due to the sedentary lifestyle that comes with office jobs, and “sitting free time activities”, such as computer and TV, young people are not getting enough movement. Overweight and obesity becoming an ever-increasing problem in European cities. Therefore, the practice of sports has to be more promoted.
The City is our Arena project has two transnational meetings. All the participants will be present at both reunions. The kick-off meeting in Haarlem (Netherlands) is in March 2021. The final meeting in Thessaloniki (Greece) is in November 2021. In a local team of three to six participants, you will work on the development of the sport map. Besides two physical meetings, you are online in contact with teams from Greece, Bulgaria, Spain, Poland and Romania.
The project shows young people that sports in their urban area is possible for free, or low-budget. These grassroots sport activities are open for all, youth-friendly and a stimulation to meet new people and feel fit and healthy. The map should bring the possibilities that a city has to offer in sight. It will show which sport activities can be organized. And where the sport facilities are located.
The NGO’s will assist the participants as good as possible. The city is our Arena looks for enthusiastic and pro-active sport lovers. Do you want to work in an international group on the development and promotion of an interactive map of grassroots sport facilities in European cities? Contact us and join this exciting new project!
